National Playday – the first Wednesday in August, Queen Square, Bath – Open for Business sponsorship – get in touch to find out how you could help!
Each year, over 1,700 children and families come together to enjoy a fantastic celebration of the child’s right to play, making Queen Square a playful place for children and their families for one day!
The event is outside but we play in all weathers and thanks to all our partners helping to make the day a real celebration of children’s play. Play Opportunities often include: Den building, hammocks, straw bales and cooking dampers on a fire pit with the Community Play Rangers, playing on the inflatables, making giant bubbles with the B&NES Play Team, Scrap workshop with loads of loose parts and messy play, taster sessions with Bath Rugby Foundation, dance sessions and circus skills with the egg theatre and Barclays staff, a children’s entertainer who did fire juggling and balloon modelling who entertained children whilst queuing for the inflatables and lots of other play opportunities with B&NES Parks, Avon & Somerset Police and Sirona Health. We have also had fantastic support from many Museums in Bath including the Museum of East Asian Art and the American Museum bringing lots of engaging activities to play with.
Comments and feedback from parents and children is always positive with excitement about the other playdays happening over the summer. Parents say they really enjoy being in the Square as their children have the freedom to roam and explore and enjoy a wide range of play opportunities whilst they know they cannot leave as there are BAPP staff on the gates!
We look forward to seeing you all this year. See a video we made of the day below.
