Play DayNational Playday 3rd August 2011 Queen Square, Bath

Playday 2011 was held on Wednesday 3rd August in Queen Square in the centre of the city with hundreds of children and families enjoying beautiful weather and an array of fantastic play opportunities.

Children enjoyed inflatables galore including a rainbow maze, straw den building, cooking, lifesize models, painting, drum making and circus skills. We would like to thank all of our partners who helped to make the day so special and enjoyed by so many.

We will be in Queen Square next year on the first Wednesday in August – hope to see you there!

National Playday 4th August 2010 Queen Square, Bath

In the heart of the city of Bath, BAPP organised a Playday event to celebrate and promote the importance of play for children and to help a wider audience understand some of the issues facing children today in their limited access to playing out in their local community.

Attended by in excess of 800 people, the Playday was opened by the Mayor of Bath and the Chairman of B&NES who both tried out various different play opportunities including the Giant inflatable slide in his chain of office!

Children enjoyed building dens in the straw, playing in the hammocks in the trees, making and painting with natural dyes all with the Community Play Rangers, making smoothies using a bicycle, building slime town from cardboard and destroying it with slime, as well as going in the amazing maze and playing on the inflatables.

Despite the showers, children and parents had a fantastic afternoon enjoying playing in the centre of Bath and even the Chief Executive of B&NES Council was impressed with how the Square was being used!

Bath Spring Flower Show 2009

The Junior Tent and creche were moved further up into the main arena resulting in good numbers despite the weather. Theme was Bugs and Beasts and children were able to make an assortment of bugs including Beastie Balls, Ladybugs as well as play in mud, decorate their own calico bags and have their faces painted.

To celebrate our 30th birthday, large 6' letters were constructed from wood and placed outside as an art installation, spelling P - L - A - Y.

Each letter was painted a different colour and adults and children alike were asked to write or draw why they thought Play was important or what play meant to them. The letters were durable enough for children to play on and around. resulting in a very visual and successful project.

These letters are available for hire for events and can be painted over easily giving a "blank canvas" for any family event.
