BAPP organised a series of Stakeholder events and Spooky Parties over the half term. These were designed to get local people and parents involved in what should happen to play in their area. 140 children came along in fancy dress and enjoyed dancing, team games and had lots of fun.

Children’s Play in Weston
Since 1979, Bath Area Play project have worked in communities across Bath facilitating and setting up playschemes often in conjunction with local people.
These are still well used by the local community with nearly 500 children using them last year.
As we are no longer receiving funding from B&NES for open-access playschemes, we have managed to get funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation and a local retired well-wisher to enable provision to run in August 2011.
We are also employing a Community Play Development Worker, Charlotte Willson, to support communities to develop services that the community want.
We know that every parent will remember their own play away from school and we want to ensure that children today still have the same opportunities to experience playing in their local community.
Children today deserve a good childhood and positive play opportunities are an excellent provider of good childhood memories.
However every community is different and each community may want different play.
Previously we have run Open-access holiday playschemes and so this may be something that the community want.
Or Playdays for the whole family
Family picnics or family play sessions
Charlotte will support communities in Whiteway, Weston and Foxhill and try and find out what is needed or wanted in terms of children’s play.
She can help groups apply for funding, run meetings and help ensure that children in Weston, Whiteway and Foxhill don’t miss out on play in the years ahead.
If you are interested in finding out more or getting involved, please get in touch with Charlotte by ringing 07590 851546 or emailing communityplay@bapp.org.uk
