BAPP were awarded a grant from the European Social Fund in 2002 to develop and set up a toy library.

We spent some time consulting with local children and families about what they thought a toy library was, how they might use it and the kinds of things they would like to borrow. There were many surprises!

The Twerton Ultimate Radical Toy Lending Experience is open to any family in B&NES with children under 16 years of age. It is also open to groups which work with children e.g. nurseries, pre-schools and out of school clubs. We are also linked with the Bath Childminding Network who use the Library and the Hut twice a month to meet.

Turtle Toy Library at the Hut- Opening Dates 2010
Turtle Toy Library will be open at The Hut every other Saturday of each month from 10am – 12 noon. Sessions will take place on the following dates:

5th and 19th June

3 and 17th July

1st and 15th August

4th and 18th September

2nd and 16th October

6th and 20th November

4th and 18th December

The Childminding Network meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month and people may choose to return toys and equipment on those days if it is easier.

The Toy Library has a Development Worker - Val Rowlands who monitors toy usage, maintains toys and equipment and where parents want suggestions for child development or other reasons, she is able to suggest items that may be suitable. The toy library has a large range of toys and equipment which is all catalogued and numbered with a system of borrowing like in a book library.

Members joining TURTLE, are issued with a membership card and then can borrow 2 toys per child for up to a month.

There are baby toys, pre-school toys, dressing up clothes, pop up tents, board games, construction sets including lego, k’nex, a go-kart, camping equipment, skateboard ramps, musical instruments, story bags and even a karaoke machine.

NEW ELECTRONIC CATALOGUE!

The Toy Library sessions run from the Hut and across B&NES at Outreach Sessions. Once you have become a member, you can borrow toys. You can look through the catalogue online and if there is a particular toy or toys that you would like to borrow, you can phone and reserve or email and reserve. Please allow at least three days as there are a large number of toys and some are more difficult to access than others!
