July 2008We have been successful to the V / GCap programme again and are encouraging people to get involved as volunteers this summer and beyond. Why not find out about being a Play Buddy in your local park? For more information contact BAPP or Joan 07792 552541 |
With funding from GCap/V we appointed a Volunteer
Co-ordinator who enabled 21 young people aged from 16 - 25 years to
have a go at volunteering with children and young people during
August 2007. Many of these young people had not considered
volunteering before with 42% coming from disadvantaged backgrounds
and 14% describing themselves as disabled. As part of this
experience, young volunteers agreed to make a film with a film maker
to show to more young people what volunteering involved as well as
demonstrate that all young people, with support if needed, are able
to contribute to local organisations through volunteering. None of
the film was scripted and what young people are saying is the result
of being asked a few questions; no rehearsals or time to think about
what they would say!
The film will be used to show more young people what volunteering
with BAPP may be like and how they can get involved too.
We hope that you enjoy watching it!
Volunteers aged 16 –
25 years needed to support children and young people to have the
best summer ever!
Through BAPP exciting
programmes of summer activities, as volunteers you could be working
with children aged 5 – 12 years in our summer playscheme settings in
5 areas of
We particularly wish to
focus on encouraging disabled and disadvantaged young people to get
involved in volunteering with us. Volunteering with children often
provides the motivation to embark on a career working with children,
as well as providing great opportunities to develop teamwork
skills, communication skills as well as social skills. There are
also opportunities for all young volunteers to undertake training on
the Take 5 for Play – an introduction in playwork course, as well as
support throughout your placement with us.
After the summer is over and
all the children have gone back to school, there will still be
opportunities for young volunteers to be signposted to other
organizations, training or further volunteering and job
opportunities. More information is available by downloading the
Volunteer information Sheet.
