Our Sessions

The Nursery and Pre-school is registered with OFSTED to provide sessional care for children from 9 months to school age.

The Hut Nursery and Pre-school serves the local community providing a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment for your child. It is a small, nurturing setting, with up to 15 children in any one session, led by an experienced and highly qualified team. It offers a haven, that is home from home, in mixed age groups that recognises that families take many forms and is flexible to varying needs. We support all children to thrive and reach their full potential, alongside those with emerging needs and SEND, embracing inclusivity and placing each child at the heart of everything we do.

The Hut is open 9am – 3pm Monday to Friday term time only, including 5 Inset days per year.

The day is split into 2 sessions:
9am – 12pm and 12pm – 3pm*

*A minimum of 2 sessions on separate days is required

*Where children are with us for the afternoon session, families need to provide a healthy packed lunch

Our Ethos

Our ethos is child led and play based, following the Early Years Foundation Stage and Birth to Five Matters. We also build on improving communication and language outcomes through the ‘Language for Life’ Programme, gaining the Language for Life  Quality Mark in 2024. We provide lots of opportunity to play freely and imaginatively and incorporate lots of physical activity, making use of our fantastic indoor and outdoor areas that include: a mud kitchen, climbing apparatus, a large outdoor track, indoor soft play, a sensory room, role play and cosy corners and lots of space for messy play and creative activities. Alongside this we carefully plan daily small group structured activities according to the age and needs of the children attending the sessions. This ensures that all children are accessing a full curriculum, fostering high quality learning at the stage they are at. We want our children to be active and curious learners, excited to explore the immediate and wider world around them.

Forest School

Our children also benefit from weekly Forest School sessions with our accredited Forest School Leader. Forest School sessions aim to provide hands on learning that inspires awe and wonder found in nature. It builds on problem solving and physical skills and a love of the outdoors, relieving stress and building resilience.

Our Mission Statement

We aim to provide a caring, nurturing and safe environment where children can play, learn and grow happily and securely. Every child is unique; therefore, we plan to encourage and enable individuals to progress at their own pace and reach their full potential. Of paramount importance is the development of the child’s personal, social and emotional skills. Self-confidence is encouraged in a sensitive, responsive, warm and loving environment. We work towards each child becoming a valued member of the Hut Pre-school and of the wider community so that they develop a strong self-image and high self-esteem.

In The Hut Pre-school we aim to provide appropriate learning opportunities to all children who attend. We endeavour to identify any children who would benefit from additional support and seek the appropriate provision in order for every child to reach their full potential.

Settling In

  • To ensure a smooth transition and to ensure we can offer the appropriate support, we feel that the more information we have about your child before they start at the setting, the more support we can give them.
  • Settling sessions are planned around what works best for your child and their individual needs.
  • If you have any concerns or feel your child may need extra support, in any area, please come in to talk to us.
  • We have an open-door policy and offer carers the opportunity to join sessions with their child, in order for their child to become more familiar with the staff and children before starting.
  • We liaise with any shared settings throughout the year to support consistency of care.
  • During the settling in sessions parents/carers will be given a starter pack, which gives you information on The Hut Pre-School , including practical tips and hints, structure of the day and policies and procedures.
